Otso Kortekangas

​PhD Candidate, Stockholm University

​Title for the speech: 
Research on Sámi education yesterday, today and tomorrow. Concluding comments, reflective remarks, promising prospects.

​Otso Kortekangas is since 2013 a PhD candidate at the Department of History at Stockholm University in Sweden. Prior to his PhD project, he has studied at universities in his native Finland as well as in Canada, Peru and the Netherlands.

 In September and October 2016 he was a visiting PhD candidate at the Center for Comparative Education at Loyola University Chicago. His PhD dissertation is a cross-national study on discourses on language of education in the elementary education of Sámi children in early twentieth century Finland, Norway and Sweden. Kortekangas is the author of a number of published and forthcoming articles on Sámi history and historiography, with special focus on education. He is also one of the founding members of the interdisciplinary research seminar on educational history at Stockholm University (Utbildningshistoriska seminariet vid Stockholms universitet).
